Cinco Fiesta

Cinco de Mayo (the 5th of May) is the Mexican Independence Day. It actually falls on a Saturday this weekend which is perfect, so why not host a little "fiesta" with some friends?! Here are some ideas to make it "muy bueno!"

First set the scene with a festive table setting. You don't have to go too literal, play around with things you already have like patterned napkins, textured placemats and baskets, and colorful candle holders and lanterns.

Pink and orange are fun, happy, and perfect for Cinco. As As seen here.

Get creative and use cans from Mexican ingredients as vases. As seen here.

Keep the menu simple with snacks and cocktails. We love the idea of make ahead drinks and appetizers that can be served at room temperature so that you aren't stuck in the kitchen all night.

Set out a large serving dish full of this delicious and surprisingly low fat "Fiesta Rice" with a stack of small bowls so guests can serve themselves. You can dress it up by adding sides of fresh lime wedges, chopped green onions, diced avocados, or shredded cheese. Recipe Here.

Be prepared to Celebrate!

You never know when that special moment to "Celebrate Life" may pop up so it's best to be prepared. We always keep cards on hand and are constantly collecting great ones when we see them, but these "all occassion" card sets make things even easier. They contain an assortment suited for a variety of occassion so you can avoid last minute stops at Walgreens and the picked over card racks (admit it, we've all been there). These sets also make a great gift so stock up and keep a few on hand for a perfect hostess gift or even Mom (it's only a few weeks away!) Here are a few of our favorite sets....

Nature's Gifts for Mom

Mother's Day is fast approaching (May 13) and that means that it's time to start thinking of ways to spoil Mom. Flowers and plants are always a nice idea and perfect for spring. While we love a traditional flower bouquet, this year why not send Mom something different. Something that makes a statement! Something she wouldn't normally treat herself to. Here is some of our top picks.

Since we're based in Florida, we love to send Moms a little taste of the tropics with this "Island Breeze" arrangement available from FTD

The "Wallflower Vertical Garden" hangs on the wall for a cool modern look. Available from Red Envelope

These white calla lilies wrapped in a glass vase would make a bold statement. Available from 1-800 Flowers

This pretty little lavender wreath will be something Mom can enjoy for a while plus it smells delicious. Available from William & Sonoma

The "Giselle Succulent Trough" is like a mini carefree garden and a great alternative to flowers since it requires very minimal care. Available from Olive & Cocoa
